Vassilis Amanatidis was born in Edessa, northern Greece, in 1970. He was raised in Thessaloniki, where he now lives. He studied History and Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Master and PhD in Art History) and worked as an art curator at the Thessaloniki Centre of Contemporary Art. He is currently a teacher of literature and a translator. He has published seven collections of poetry: Dormitory: Nine nocturnal parables (Entefktirio editions, 1999), House of ice (Kedros, 2001), Thirtythree (Gavriilidis, 2003), Summer indoors + six proofs of capability (Bilieto, 2005), 4-D: Four-Dimensional Poems (Gavriilidis, 2006), 7: poetry for video games (Nefeli, 2011), m_otherpoem: mono logue (Nefeli, 2014). He has also published two collections of short-stories: Don’t eat me (Kastaniotis, 2005) and Charybdi’s Dog (Kastaniotis, 2008). His theatrical plays The washbasin (2007) and Blom! (2008) were staged in Thessaloniki. His poems and short-stories have been translated into ten languages (English, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Russian, Turkish, Bulgarian, Slovak, Romanian), and have been included in anthologies, catalogues and literary journals.He has translated into Greek the works of well known writers and poets, such as: Isaac Bashevis Singer (Enemies, A love story – Εχθροί, μια ερωτική ιστορία, Κastaniotis 2009), Joyce Carol Oates (The tattoed girl – Το κορίτσι με το τατουάζ, Kastaniotis, 2006), Simon Mawer (The glass room – Γυάλινες ζωές, Modern Times, 2011), e. e. cummings ( [only with spring] 44 poems – [μόνο με την άνοιξη] 44 ποιήματα, Nefeli 2010), Anne Carson (The Autobiography of Red – Η αυτοβιογραφία του Κόκκινου, Poiitiki journal, 2010), Witold Gombrowicz (Cosmos - Κόσμος, Nefeli 2012). He has performed in several poetry readings at international festivals such as the third Stockholm Poetry Festival and in the 53rd Venice Biennale.
