translated by John Taylor
No one had ever accompanied me
into the dark garden.
So I hid behind the first bush,
listening to the flowing water and screaming
amid the silence of a day
that should never happen again.
Time thus flowed through the branches.
The slightest instant of time was pulverized.
Each night promised a future darkness,
while day announced mere fleeting light
and nothing, nothing, resembled what
had occurred.
Damned be those
who led me into a garden
that was not a forest!
Yes, I curse Nature
mountains
the nauseating soil
my hovel is a ditch
I eat nothing but mud
nothing else
is left.
